Are Ticks Dangerous To Human Health?

2 Mins read
Ticks

Ticks are one of the most notorious pests; they are usually seen in tall grasses and wooded areas. Most ticks are generally harmless, but a few species like deer tick and wood tick are dangerous, as they carry deadly diseases.

An important thing to know about ticks is that they like to suck blood; their favorite hosts are dogs. If you ever notice signs of tick infestation in your house or you see your dog scratching themselves, it is vital to seek help from Cedar Park pest control services. Getting rid of them permanently will ensure safety for you, your family, and your pets.

Ticks usually spread infection while feeding; they also get infected if a tick is feeding upon an infected host. Later, when feeding upon another host, they pass on the infection. Infections could be fatal and require immediate medical attention.

Diseases spread by Ticks.

  1. Lyme disease:

This disease is caused by the bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi and rarely B. Mayonii. These diseases are transmitted to humans via a bite from infected ticks. The person suffering from this disease would observe headache, fever, and erythema migrans; if the condition remains untreated, the infection can spread to joints, heart, and CNS and cause chronic complications.

  1. Rocky Mountain spotted fever:

The woof tick spreads this disease, also called the American dog tick. It feeds on humans and spreads infection. These ticks have two types of hosts to complete their life cycle. First are the rodents at their early stage while humans are in adulthood. Their bite leads to Rocky Mountain spotted fever caused by rickettsia rickettsii. The person observes symptoms such as fever, headache, and body pain. Within 2-3 days after the onset of fever, a rash develops on the hand and later spreads to other body areas.

  1. Tularemia:

Star ticks cause tularemia. Drinking contaminated water or inhaling contaminated aerosols can lead to infection. Tularemia can be life-threatening, while antibiotics can treat other diseases. People can opt for prevention such as insect repellent; wearing gloves while holding sick animals will help in reducing the risk of getting an infection.

  1. Spotted fever caused by gulf coast ticks:

Rickettsia parkeri is the causative agent of spotted fever. Once infected, a person observes a rash, headache, and fever.

What to do if I have a tick infestation?

Ticks are difficult to identify, but you may try to place a white dot on female ticks’ dorsal shield, or if you have a dog that is scratching itself, it may indicate that a tick has infested your house and is affecting your dog. However, identifying ticks for an inexperienced eye is difficult.

To identify and eliminate the tick from your house, you can contact professional pest control services. They are experts and know how to deal with all kinds of pests.
